"Empowering Young Voices, Building Bright Futures"

A specialist Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 alternative provision for children aged 6–11

S L Drama Academy CIC offers a dynamic, creative alternative provision specifically designed for primary-aged children (KS1 & KS2) who need a different approach to succeed.

We provide a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment where children aged 6–11 can reconnect with learning, rebuild confidence, and develop the foundations they need to thrive.

Our creative approach is proven to improve behaviour, increase engagement with learning, and support academic progress, while equipping children with the resilience, confidence and self-belief they need to overcome challenges and thrive both in school and beyond.

Our provision supports children who are struggling in mainstream education, unable to attend school, or at risk of exclusion — offering early intervention at a crucial stage in their development.

Since 2020, we have worked with children across Derby, helping them overcome barriers, re-engage with education, and build positive futures from an early age.

We are committed to removing barriers — whether social or emotional — so every young person can thrive.

Our mission is to ensure that they leave us with a stronger sense of self, a clearer vision for their future, and the courage to take the next step towards it.

What Schools and Commissioners need to know...

Creative Engagement & Early Intervention

Our provision is built on the belief that early intervention creates lasting change.

Using the creative and performing arts, we support children to:

  • Develop emotional regulation
  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • Improve communication and social skills
  • Learn positive behaviour and decision-making
  • Re-engage with education in a meaningful, enjoyable way

By working at KS1 and KS2 level, we support children before challenges escalate, helping them to remain connected to education and future opportunities.

Our Approach

At S L Drama Academy, we believe that every child deserves to feel successful, understood and valued.

Our approach is:

  • Age-appropriate and engaging for children aged 6–11
  • Trauma-informed and nurturing
  • Person-centred, tailored to individual needs and interests

Through drama, music and movement, children are supported to:

  • Express emotions safely
  • Build trust with adults and peers
  • Develop self-regulation strategies
  • Grow in confidence and independence

We use storytelling, imaginative play and creative exploration to help children process their experiences in a way that feels natural, safe and accessible.
